What do you need to know about buying and owning property in Villamartin? Tip: first things first it's 'Villa -Mar-teeen' not 'Villamartin' - the locals almost always insist on correcting you you might as well get it right now! sometimes it's written as one Words which is the correct way grammatically sometimes you will see it as two words Villamartin.
Villamartin is famous both for the wonderful PGA standard golf course, and the commercial center with nightly entertainment, live open-air gigs, multiple bars and restaurants both of the same name; VillaMartin Plaza and VillaMartin Golf course. The area began to develop in the early 1970s when a local Builder, by the name of Martin funnily enough, set about turning this arid lands into a vibrant community for foreigners and wealthy Spanish people.
Initially, the construction of property was to stop once they reached 1500 inhabitants, however it is now exploded and that figure is in the region of tens of thousands in the greater villamartin area. Golf plays a huge part in attracting foreigners here but so does the wonderful climate, cost of living, access to the beach, shopping experiences like the La Zenia Boulevard, ease of getting here with two international airports in Alicante and Murcia and relaxed Spanish feel we experience all over the Costa Blanca.
What and where? Villamartin is much more than just a small Spanish village built from scratch over the last 45 years. It also consists a stunning old-style Spanish PGA standard Golf Course and a host of family friendly activities. Once the area became saturated with tourists, second home owners, and day trippers, it expanded to what we see today.
Developers use some poetic license when they describe their developments are in Villamartin, but El Galan, Blue Lagoon, La Fuente, maybe even los Dolses and other smaller areas now appear to come under the geographical area "Villamartin". The area is so well-known, everyone is using the name to now help sell their property. You can see why the General Villamartin area is widely popular especially with expatriates.
Interesting snippet: The Central Plaza next to Villamartin Golf Course is the heartbeat of the region. One of the little quirks associated with the area is the presence of African Ringneck parrots. Yes, parrotts living year-round with the rest of their expatriate friends high in the palm trees in the Square. They answer back when spoken to and really have achieved an incredible celebrity status in the area.
Villamartin Golf Course. Before Villaartin square or the tens of thousands of properties became a big thing, this region was known for Villamartin Golf Course. As early as 1994 just 20 years after it has opened the Paul Putman course, hosted the Mediterranean open. Quite a compliment to such a young course as it was then. Local favourite, and ex Ryder cup captain, Jose Maria Olazabal needed a playoff to defeat ex Ryder Cup captain, Paul McGinley. Incredibly this was the last PGA event to be held here. The PGA tour felt, as beautiful as the course was, some of the trees in the middle of the fairways needed to be knocked. The membership refused, ( the trees are not in play for the average golfer!) the trees remain and to this day it's still a terrific challenge. It's a par-72 measuring 6000 meters with white, yellow and blue Stakes all available. Membership to the course costs approximately 750 euro per year. Should you choose to do business with us, we will speak to the people in the golf club and ensure you get at least one year's membership for free perhaps even more, let's talk!
One of our favorite things about VillaMartin golf club is that it is very much a social center. Almost every day there is a local golf society playing; there is a weekly Scandinavian event, yes even us non Scandinavians can play; there is a weekly ladies event, membersonly event and more.
The clubhouse is a great meeting spot and they even do a good English breakfast. It's popular in the afternoon to for an ice cold beverage after (hopefully) a successful day on the golf course.
The owners of the last Ramblas golf course which is just a kilometer or two away, as well as the stunning La Finca Golf Resort, are the same as those who built Villa Martin. There are cracking deals available if you play these three courses while on your holiday here or a membership for Villamartin will get you 50% reductions on either of the two courses mentioned. Again talk to us first, we ensure you will get the best deal on your golf in the villaMartin.
The square in VillaMartin. When it comes to relaxing after a draining day on the golf course or La Zenia Beach (just 5 minutes drive away) there is possibly no better place than villamartin Square to enjoy your evening. Live music on the Square sees acts such as Leo Sayer and Ray Lewis thrill the crowds.
The setting is perfect surrounded by palm trees and illuminated by the stars at night. It's a year-round venue too. Many of the local and foreign residents take advantage of the slightly quieter square in winter but it is an exciting place to be anytime of the year. The Hub, Fairways, the Square restaurant, the Copper Chimney… all are super popular and constantly rate very highly with visitors.
If you like your evening entertainment a little bit more lively don't worry; after midnight the karaoke bars kick in you'll never be stuck for something to do in villaMartin. It's not expensive to dine out here, with specials available nightly in most restaurants, very often during a delicious bottle of local Red Wine.
5 things people love about owneing a property in the VillaMartin area. The beaches of the Costa Blanca. just 5 minutes drive from Villamartin Plaza will take you to the gorgeous resort town of La Zenia. If you love a beach, you love it here. La Zenia is connected by a stunning cliff walk to Cabo Roig to the South and Playa Flamenca to the north. The blue flag beaches are clean, have lots of facilities for adults and kids and all have lifeguards on duty right through the summer. We recommend a cocktail in one of the many beach bars located along the Costa Blanca. You´ll see the little Chiringuito bars, with the wooden huts all all the coast here.
The golf on the Costa Blanca. We've talked already about VillaMartin Golf Course but it would be unfair not to mention Las Ramblas, Campoamor golf and La Finca in particular. Coupoamor is just a few hundred meters away from Villamartin. Much more than a golf course it has three full size football pictures which have recently hosted teams like cska Moscow, Wolves and even the Austrian national squad. They've got tennis courts and coaching, community swimming pools, paddle, gymnasium, spa and two four star hotels. The golf course is fair with nice wide fairways and no real surprises. Las ramblas could not be a lot more difference but no less worth the visit. Las Ramblas is a challenge. You find yourself teeing off on two of the pars fives with a 7-iron and youre often just happy to hit short grass. The thing is all the par 5´s are reachable in two, if you know where you're going; otherwise prepare for a long day of searching for your golf ball. Once you've played it once it's going to be addictive and you will come back again and again. La Finca Golf Course was also built by the people at Villamartin Golf course. Again, beautiful properties surround the stunning course, there is a 4-star hotel, bars, restaurants, spa and all the facilities you could imagine. Properties are available from 175000 Euro click here for more details.
Spanish tapas bars. Sure we all enjoy the Irish Pub for a Guinness and the English bar for the sports on a Saturday afternoon, but when in Spain why not do what the Spanish do? Spanish tapas are very popular in the region and bars such as the Hen's Teeth in the villamartin plaza, the Fish Bowl next to Campoamor Beach, (operated by famous restaurateur Peter Fisher), Lizarran Spanish tapas in the la Zenia Boulevard and La Bahia restaurant in Cabo Roig Marina all provide visitors with an authentic flavor of Spanish food.
Terra Mitica, Benidorm. Terra mitica literally means mythical land. A visit to Benidorm is not complete if you've got a family without a trip to this wonderful theme park. The history of Greece, Egypt and Rome as well as ancient Mediterranean civilizations set the atmosphere. The roller coasters, water slides, wildlife, boat rides and shows provide wonderful entertainment. 1 hours drive from villamartin along the National Road 332 will bring you directly to Terra mitica. We can help you to get discounted entry tickets too.
Isla Tabarca. One of the most enjoyable parts of your day trip to easy to isla Tabarca might well be the 40-minute ride on the glass bottom catamaran leaving from Torrevieja. it's only 20 minutes door-to-door from VillaMartin to the marina in Torrevieja. We highly recommend this day trip what better than a sea breeze and a cold beer to cool you down? Isla Tabarca, located 9 km east of Santa Pola is the smallest inhabited Island in all of Spain. It's steeped in history having been the first line of defense to defend the coast against invading Pirates back in the reign of King Charles the Third. It's possible to have a stroll around the lighthouse and indeed the prisons themselves… you can really visualize what it was like for the captives 200 years ago! Maybe something more reserved like some bird watching, a visit to the Baroque Church of St Peter and Paul ot a nice hour or two relaxing on the soft sanded beach before returning home to Torrevieja might be a nice way to finish your day. It's such an enjoyable trip , no matter how to decide to spend it.
