70% of Spain move to Phase 2 of exit from Lockdown

70% of Spain move to Phase 2 of exit from Lockdown

Great news from Spain as Salvador Illa, the Spanish Health Minister, allowed the move of approximately 70% of the country into Phase 2 of exit from lockdown, from June 1st, 2020.

Orihuela Costa moves to Phase 2

Amongst the areas allowed to move forward are parts of South Costa Blanca, including the Orihuela Costa. The progression to Phase 2 is happening a week before it was planned because of a confirmation by Senor Illa that ‘health data’ has improved. This comes following petitions by many regions of the country who rely on tourism heavily.

Swimming now allowed

The beaches of La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Playa Flamenca are among those allowed to re-open for sunbathing and swimming in the Med, the essence of the warm summer days. However, it will be up to local Town Halls to decide the actual date, with some opting for the middle of June.

With an allowance of 30 percent capacity, swimming pools can also open, while gyms are just being permitted one to one instruction, excluding contact.

Groups of 15 allowed to socialise

Millions of Spanish residents in specific areas will now be allowed to gather in groups of up to 15 people with time restrictions for leaving home now removed. Despite the changes, those with underlying health issues and the elderly will still be shielded as before, though the vulnerable can still exercise at an already allocated time.

Shopping Centres re-open

For the avid shoppers out there, the news of shops opening back up, with 40 per cent capacity, will be joyful. Even shopping centres such as the amazing La Zenia Boulevard will be back in business, to the absolute delight of locals. There will however be a limit to capacity within communal areas of shopping centres.

Less restrictive bar and restaurant rules

It doesn’t end there. This is a phase that just keeps giving. Bars and restaurants on the Costa Blanca, were allowed to re-open during Phase 1, using outside terrace space rather than indoors. Under Phase 2, they have now progressed to accommodating indoor clientele at a 50 percent capacity, without bar service.

Hotels can allow access to communal areas within certain capacity restrictions.

Cinemas, Theatres and Churches re-opening under special conditions

Cinema lovers will be thrilled to discover that they too can return to enjoy the delights of the big screen. Reduced capacity in cinemas and theatres, who can re-open in Phase 2 of the de-escalation plan, means that lovers of the arts can express their appreciation in comfortable, socially distanced surroundings.

Churches will also be able to welcome their congregations back with open arms, while not actually hugging them. A 50 percent capacity condition will allow the doors to be opened once again, to those who wish to worship in groups.

Minister for Tourism proposes Travel Bridges with some European Countries

The move to Phase 2 has allowed Spain to propose opening back up internationally for tourism. Rating 5th in Europe for the size of its tourism economy, the country is anxious to get this sector moving. With these new steps forward, the industry is optimistic as it gears up to prepare for visitors.

Travel bridges are being considered between parts of European countries who have been managing the transmission of Covid 19. Spain’s Minister for Tourism, Reyes Maroto is keen for this to move forward, with travel being allowed between reciprocal areas of Europe who are considered to be in control of the virus. If approved, this could come into effect on or before 1st July, 2020. Compulsory 14 day quarantine on arrival in Spain will have been lifted by then. With Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa among the well controlled areas, visitors will be delighted to return, safe in the knowledge that there will be low levels of infection. A hot summer holiday, previously just a dream, can now be a reality.

Estate agents open

With estate agents now open and travel shortly being allowed, those properties you have gazed at longingly from afar can soon become bricks and mortar right in front of your eyes. As they tease you with their beauty, in a fabulous location, your dream can become a reality. In the knowledge that you can enjoy a meal and a drink in a Mediterranean setting, have a dip in the clear waters of the Med or stroll through the shop-lined boulevard of one of the largest and most beautiful shopping centres on the Costa Blanca, now you too can move on to your next phase.

Cheap flights
